Student Bursaries

Northern Spirit ATA Local #6 awards 3 bursaries of $1000.00 each. One bursary is given to an Education student, one is given to a child of a teacher and one is given to a post-secondary student in their second, third or fourth year of study.

Student Bursary Form 

Qualifications:

A. Education Student Bursary

  1. The applicant must be enrolled in the initial year of full-time study in Education at an accredited university or college.
  2. The applicant must be a graduate of a high school in the jurisdiction of Peace Wapiti School Division #76.
  3. The applicant must have resided in the County of Grande Prairie, I.D.16, M.D. 133, M.D.19, M.D. 20 or the County of Birch Hills upon graduation.
  4. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and community/school service.

B. Child of a Teacher Bursary

  1. The applicant must be the son or daughter of a certified teacher who is a member of the Northern Spirit ATA Local#6.
  2. The applicant must be enrolled in the initial year of full-time study in any field at an accredited university or college.
  3. The bursary shall be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and community/school service.

C. Northern Spirit Bursary

  1. The applicant must be enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of study at an accredited university or college.
  2. The applicant must either be in the field of Education or a child of a teacher in Peace Wapiti School Division #76.
  3. The applicant must not have received the Education Student, Child of a Teacher or Northern Spirit Bursary in a previous year. Unsuccessful applicants are eligible to apply for this bursary. Applicants who have never applied for the bursaries but who meet the criteria are eligible.
  4. The bursary shall be awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and community/school service.

Applications must include:

  1. Official copies of transcripts of all high school or post-secondary marks.
  2. A properly filled out application form.
  3. A cover letter outlining your participation in community activities, school activities, professional goals and any other pertinent information.
  4. Reference letters from two teachers or educators and one community member.
  5. Proof of university or college registration.
  6. The applicant’s social insurance number for Canada Revenue Agency reporting purposes.

Special Notes:

  1. Applications that are incomplete or incorrectly filled out will not be considered for the bursaries.
  2. Applicants who were awarded a Northern Spirit ATA Local #6 bursary in a previous year are not eligible for any bursary consideration.
  3. No application received after the deadline will be considered.
  4. Applications will be reviewed by the Northern Spirit ATA Local#6 Treasurer and Vice-President.
  5. Applicants will be notified of their bursary status no later than December 1 of the year in which they have applied.
  6. Applicants may apply for the Education Student and Child of a Teacher Bursaries in the same year.

Official copies of transcripts of all high school marks must be submitted with the application form and mailed prior to October 30 to:
